“There’s nothing quite like the tangible, textural, hands-on approach to this world of art-making. You’ll experience the juxtaposition of colour, texture, and pattern”.
The Kawartha Art Gallery.
Ken Prescott has been exhibiting his paintings for over 40 years in both solo and group exhibitions throughout Canada, US, Mexico and the Bahamas.
Working with Collage, the excitement of papers of every colour, texture and pattern and the suggestive qualities allows him to "build" his paintings. The juxtaposition of these elements which creates the sensuous interplay of form and colour – all this gives him the freest, most spontaneous expression and great pleasure as a painter.
Ken Prescott achieves his effects by applying acrylic polymer paints directly on paper, using almost any means that will give him the texture he is looking for – brush, knife, sprayer, trowel, roller. The results are mounted on cradled wood panel or stretched canvas using acrylic polymer adhesive. A coat of acrylic semi gloss varnish permanently seals the work.
Coming November 22nd, 2025
Masterclass honours six artists who have been with the gallery for almost four decades since the gallery opened its doors in 1986: Sharon Quirke, Ken Prescott, Deryk Houston, Markian Olynyk, Vern Simpson, and Joyce Kamikura.
Masterclass reflects both reverence and recognition — a celebration of mastery earned through decades of dedication to art. Each artist featured in the exhibition represents a different “class” in the truest sense: a generation of creators who have taught through their example, influenced others through their craft, and embodied perseverance in a changing art world.
For Art Works Gallery, Masterclass is not just a showcase of artistic skill — it’s a statement of values. It honours the idea that mastery comes from community, mentorship, and time. These artists have not only mastered their mediums but have also helped shape Vancouver’s creative landscape, contributing to a legacy that continues to inspire new generations of artists and collectors alike.
